Inheritance: The Whitney Museum of American Art

The Whitney Museum of American Art is presenting a new exhibition featuring forty-three artists who have explored the idea of "legacy" and "inheritance." These themes are considered in the work to represent the impact they have within a familial and aesthetic context. The works showcased traces back from 1970 to the present and cover a diverse range of mediums. This exhibition allows the viewer to consider the similarities and changes within society, contemplating, "Where did we come from?" and, "Where are we going?"

The Joanne Artman Gallery is presenting a solo exhibition of new works by color enthusiast, Mary Finlayson. This showcase explores themes of home, memory and self through patterns, color and texture. Each piece tells a story of how people inhabit their environments and add life to a space. The artist's work is reminiscent of Henri Matisse, David Hockney and Stuart Davis as she borrows their bright color palettes and pays homage to their patterns and themes.

Intimate Strangers invites its audience to reflect on prominent social issues such as the realities of the American Dream, ageism, immigration, race and the LGBTQ+ community. This group exhibtion ranges from a variety of mediums all derived from participating artists in this poignant showcase.

It Happened in SoHo is a celebration of the neighbourhood's pulse on the New York art scene. The gallery has selected the works of some of the most iconic artists from the late 60s and 80s. At this time, artists Thornton Willis, Joan Thorne, and Dean Fleming's work overlapped in aesthetics and process. This exhibition showcases their careers and highlights the New York art world from this period.
