The Sculpture of The Fearless Girl Has Been Moved

Women empowerment or girl child empowerment is a familiar term in today’s age unlike in the past years. In most countries across the world, there are individuals, government as well as non-governmental institutions that are cultivating “Women Empowerment”. In New York, Artist Kristen Visbal created a sculpture “Fearless Girl” that was originally installed at Bowling Green in the Financial District of Manhattan on March 7th 2017. The sculpture which began as advertising bloomed above her expectations, as it is now globally recognized as a symbol of women’s leadership.

Commissioned by State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), the statue depicts a girl who has both hands on her hips and her chin lifted up as a symbol of boldness and strength. The sculpture which was installed facing the Charging Bull statue or Wall Street Bull statue was commissioned to advertise for gender-diverse companies in terms of leadership and financial standards in women. Initially it had a plaque below it that stated "Know the power of women in leadership. SHE makes the difference.

Fearless Girl which was originally called “Taking a stand” represents the future of an empowered woman while the Charging Bull represents the financial community. The installment of the artwork at the exact spot as Charging Bull has been the talk of many. Some time back, creator of Charging Bull artist Arturo Di Modica demanded its removal as he says that the statue brings a different meaning to what his, intended to communicate.Just a few months later, another artist Alex Gardega, decided to install his sculpture a urinating dog next to the leg of Fearless girl – it was however removed.

On November 27th, the standing tall at approximately 50 inches and weighing 250 pounds, Fearless Girl was removed in preparation for its relocation at a spot in front of the New York Stock Exchange. The Charging Bull as well is expected to be moved to the same location, however no exact dates of the relocation have been mentioned so far.

Artist Kritsen Visbal has in some time been making limited editions of the sculpture, which features a daring and confident young girl who stands for Women. The editions (smaller in size) are obviously not cheap. They are said to be going for an approximately $6,500 dollars each. The artist says that she hopes to make affordable editions of the same artwork in the near future. She adds that as Fearless Girl stands on her own with a very strong message, its editions will do the same. “All women should relate to this work, it should inspire the young to dream as if anything were possible and simultaneously encourage today’s working woman to hold her ground, no matter what challenges may come barreling down the pike”. She however says that the editions will not be sold to individuals to be kept as beautifiers on closed areas, but will only be sold to buyers who are willing to have them installed at places where many will have access to them for their purposes to be met.

Just like someone once wrote, “behind every successful woman is a tribe of other successful women who have her back”, Fearless Girl will for ages have the future woman empowered for greatness.
