A STUDY OF BLUE MOUNTAINS - CATHERINE OPIE

@LEHMANN MAUPIN 03 APRIL- 10 MAY 2025 Lehmann Maupin is pleased to present Catherine Opie: A Study of Blue Mountains, a solo exhibition of new photographs and ceramic sculptures by the Los Angeles-based artist, on view April 3–May 31, 2025 in New York. Opie’s latest exhibition marks the New York debut of the artist’s Norwegian Mountain series, her newest body of work to date. The works, the artist has noted, are a meditation on “how the history of blue is used in art…about blue as a mourning as the planet changes so rapidly.” Looking at color and landscape, Opie imbues the images in A Study of Blue Mountains with a sense of the sublime.

GHOST COAST - RAY HWANG

@TEMPEST 5 APR, 2025 - 26 APR, 2025

Recent palimpsestic paintings by Ray Hwang impress new hunches upon layered scrims of memory. What kind of a place is haunted by ghosts? What happened there? Who is haunted? Who are the ghosts? Ray Hwang (b.1992) is an artist from LA, living and working out of Ridgewood, NY. His work consists primarily of acrylic painting and drawing, in which he abstracts and layers imagery from his personal history to explore themes of family, home and inter-cultural contradiction. He received his BFA from the School of Visual Arts in 2016 and has since exhibited throughout New York City and internationally.

NEW YORK ROOTS - STEVE TOBIN

02 APR, 2025 - 28 FEB, 2026

Renowned conceptual artist Steve Tobin has put down roots in the Garment District with his series of striking, monumental sculptures, New York Roots, as part of the Garment District Alliance’s latest public art exhibit. Located on the Broadway plazas in the Garment District between 39th and 40th Streets and 40th and 41st Streets, New York Roots is a towering series of seven steel sculptures that invite viewers to reflect on relationships, families, and communities coming together for a shared purpose—just as roots intertwine to strengthen a tree. “New York Roots is a captivating addition to the Garment District that transforms our public plazas into spaces for reflection and serves as an important reminder to stay rooted in our communities,” said Barbara A. Blair, president of the Garment District Alliance. “By framing the city through sweeping curves, Steve’s impressive sculptures invite passersby to engage with their surroundings in a new way, offering a moment of sanctuary while celebrating the energy that pulses through the streets we call home.”New York 2025 Discover more
