"UNTITLED" (AMERICA)

@WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART 5 JUL, 2026 - 30 JUN, 2027 This exhibition features renowned works from the Whitney’s collection alongside recent acquisitions, highlighting key ideas and approaches in American art from 1900 through the early 1980s. Beginning with the Whitney’s robust holdings in figurative and realist traditions, the presentation considers how artists have responded to place and memory in the American landscape, popular culture and the rise of consumerism, the seductions and illusions of mass media, and the spatial and cultural dynamics of abstraction. The Reflection of Bronze - Giuseppe Penone @GAGOSIAN 22 April, 2026 – 17 July, 2026 Gagosian is pleased to announce The Reflection of Bronze, an exhibition of new bronze sculptures by Giuseppe Penone, opening at 555 West 24th Street on April 22. This is the artist’s first exhibition with the gallery in New York and marks the debut of two major bodies of work. Curated by Adam D. Weinberg, director emeritus of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, it is rooted in Penone’s late-1960s exploration of trees, which led to his celebrated carved tree works and now culminates in sculptures that render the same subject permanent in metal. In Queens

THE ARK @POWERHOUSE ARTS 11 JUN 2026 - 30 AUG 2026

A sweeping group exhibition composed entirely of animal sculptures that foster a sense of connection and awe channeled through artists’ eyes, The Ark brings together 90 sculptures and installations in myriad materials. The Ark refers directly to the myth of the Deluge, an event of epic scale that becomes a metaphor for the present moment, where environmental and social upheaval converge. Throughout the exhibition—experienced in the round, in close proximity and at monumental scale—the animals function as both protagonists and interlocutors. Rather than framing environmental themes through notions of crisis and urgency alone, the exhibition centers on relationships and intimate encounters—the menagerie assembled in The Ark bears witness to forces that threaten our existence while fostering the instinctive human tendency to care for vulnerable beings and acknowledge their unique contributions to our collective life on this planet.

Outside

HOMECOMING: JOHN MORSE @SOCRATES SCULPTURE PARK 04 JULY, 2026 - 01 NOV, 2026 In celebration of the Park’s 40th Anniversary, Socrates Sculpture Park presents a reconstruction of Flying Flag Flying (1995), a work by alumnus artist John Morse originally created for Pop Up, a summer exhibition at Socrates. The project emerged through recent archival research supported by the Mellon Foundation, which has helped uncover overlooked histories from the Park’s first decades. Among these discoveries was Morse’s practice, much of which was never fully documented due to the ephemeral nature of the flag-based works he exhibited at Socrates in the 1990s. Following the artist’s passing in 2025, the Park worked with his partner to reproduce Flying Flag Flying as part of Homecoming, a series of projects inviting alumni artists back into the life of the Park during its 40th anniversary year.
