In Museums

FRIENDS WHO CAME TO SEE ME: DRAWINGS FROM JOHN ASHBERY'S COLLECTION

@THE MORGAN LIBRARY & MUSEUM 01 MAY - 25 OCT, 2026 In 2019, the Morgan received a donation of some twenty- five works on paper from the collection of American poet John Ashbery (1927–2017) from his husband, David Kermani. These works form the core of this exhibition devoted to Ashbery and his artist friends. Ashbery, who worked as an art critic for three decades and often found inspiration for his poetry in the visual arts, developed numerous friendships with artists, including James Bishop, Joe Brainard, Jane Freilicher, Jean Hélion, Fairfield Porter, and Larry Rivers. With the exception of two sheets by Constantin Guys from the mid-nineteenth century, the drawings range chronologically from 1945 to 2007, with a concentration of works from the 1960s. Many were gifts to the poet from the artists. Discover more

DAVID SPRIGGS @ARSENAL CONTEMPORARY ART, NEW YORK 20 JUN - 22 AUG, 2026 Arsenal Contemporary New York is pleased to present a selection of works by David Spriggs, coinciding with his inclusion in the current Iris van Herpen exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum. Bringing together works that move between atmosphere, space, and immaterial form, the exhibition foregrounds Spriggs’s long-standing investigation into how images become spatial events. GREATER NEW YORK 2026 @MOMA PSI 16 APR - 17 AUG, 2026

Our signature survey of artists living and working in the New York City area returns for its sixth edition this spring, coinciding with MoMA PS1’s 50th anniversary. Spanning all levels of MoMA PS1’s historic school building, Greater New York 2026 brings into focus over 50 multidisciplinary artists in the formative years of their careers. This highly anticipated iteration will encompass site-specific commissions, new productions, and performances, alongside important recent works that address today’s most urgent cultural concerns.

HEADS OR TAILS - GENESIS BELANGER @CITY HALL PARK THROUGH NOVEMBER 15, 2026 Genesis Belanger (b. 1978, Massachusetts) transforms City Hall Park into a stage for artworks that play with commonplace park features such as planted gardens, fountains, and public statuary. Wander through the park to find a flock of birds, three potted fruit trees waiting to be planted among their living counterparts, and two large bronze figures that are modern interpretations of the allegorical Lady Justice. Belanger sculpted many of the works by hand in clay before casting them in resilient materials like bronze and pigmented cement. The sculptures’ color palette ranges from luscious florals to more muted tones that mimic the park’s fountain and traditional monumental sculpture. Discover more
