Three Opportunities to Build, Exhibit, and Expand Your Practice
As the year moves into its final months, artists are beginning to make decisions that could shape where their work is seen, how their careers develop, and what opportunities they pursue in 2027.
This week’s Art Dealer Street roundup brings together three opportunities with very different goals. One is designed for artists ready to take over a New York gallery with a solo exhibition. Another focuses on the professional infrastructure behind an artistic career, offering New York City artists months of intensive development through The Bronx Museum. The third gives independent artists the chance to plan ahead and exhibit at Clio Art Fair during its May 2027 editions in Chelsea.
What connects all three is the opportunity to move beyond simply producing work.
For some artists, the next step may be presenting an entire body of work in a dedicated gallery environment. For others, it may be strengthening the professional knowledge needed to navigate galleries, institutions, funding, documentation, and the art market. And for artists planning further ahead, securing an exhibition opportunity for 2027 may provide the structure needed to develop a new body of work with a clear destination in mind.
We’ve arranged this week’s opportunities by application deadline, so you can prioritize what needs attention first.
1. Art Dealer Street — Limited Solo Exhibition Opportunity
Location: New York City
Opportunity Type: Solo Exhibition / Gallery Opportunity
Application Deadline: October 20, 2026
Promotional Rate: $7,500 per week
Regular Rate: $18,000 per week
Art Dealer Street is offering a limited number of artists the opportunity to present their own solo exhibition in New York City between October 2026 and early 2027.
The program is designed for artists who already have a developed body of work and are ready to build a focused solo presentation in a professional gallery environment.
Each selected artist receives the gallery for one full exhibition week, with support extending from installation through public presentation and final de-installation.
The promotional package includes exhibition installation and art handling, professional art-dealer service during public hours, promotional communication, a dedicated Artsy exhibition page, an opening cocktail reception, custom vinyl lettering featuring the exhibition title and artist’s name, printed exhibition postcards, and ongoing gallery support.
Artists also receive 80% of artwork sales, while Art Dealer Street retains a 20% gallery commission.
The weekly exhibition structure includes installation on Tuesday, continued preparation on Wednesday, the public opening on Thursday, exhibition hours through Sunday, and de-installation on Monday.
Available exhibition periods currently extend from October 20, 2026 through February 1, 2027, and applicants can select between one and four preferred weeks when submitting their application.
For artists looking to move from group exhibitions into a more concentrated solo presentation, this opportunity provides the chance to control the narrative around a complete body of work while receiving professional gallery support throughout the process.
2. The Bronx Museum — 2027 AIM Fellowship
Location: The Bronx, New York
Opportunity Type: Fellowship / Professional Development
Disciplines: All Visual Arts
Application Deadline: October 25, 2026
The Bronx Museum is accepting applications for the 47th cycle of its AIM Fellowship, one of its longest-running professional development programs for rising visual artists based in New York City.
Founded in 1980 as the Artist in Marketplace program, AIM is designed to give artists the practical knowledge, professional tools, and relationships needed to build sustainable careers.
Each year, 14 artists are selected through a competitive open call.
The nine-month program is divided into two sections. From February through June, fellows focus on career foundations, including the art market, artist statements, career planning, financial literacy, communication strategies, legal issues, funding opportunities, and relationships between artists and curators.
After a summer break, the program resumes from September through December with a stronger emphasis on professional development through studio visits, portfolio reviews, guest artist conversations, peer-led sessions, exhibition preparation, documentation, archives, audience development, and working with institutions.
Fellows meet Tuesdays from 6–9 PM at The Bronx Museum.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old, currently live in New York City, and have approximately two to ten years of experience actively creating and presenting original visual art. Applicants cannot be enrolled in a degree-granting program, cannot participate in another professional development program during the fellowship, and cannot have commercial gallery representation.
The application is free and requires six recent artworks representing the applicant’s practice.
AIM is not a studio residency, and studio space is not included. Its value lies instead in helping artists understand the professional systems surrounding their work and build stronger foundations for the next stage of their careers.
3. Clio Art Fair — May 2027 Early Bird Applications
Location: 511 West 25th Street, Chelsea, New York City
Dates: May 6–9, 2027 & May 13–16, 2027
Opportunity Type: Art Fair / Exhibition Opportunity
Early Bird Application Deadline: December 1, 2026
Clio Art Fair has opened Early Bird applications for its May 2027 program, marking the fair’s 26th and 27th editions.
The two consecutive editions will take place:
May 6–9, 2027 | 26th Edition
May 13–16, 2027 | 27th Edition
Known as the “Anti-Fair for Independent Artists,” Clio Art Fair is centered on artists working without exclusive gallery representation and provides a direct platform for presenting work to collectors, curators, art professionals, and the public in Chelsea.
Applications are reviewed by Clio Art Fair’s Curatorial Board. Artists selected for participation can choose among Gold, Platinum, and Diamond exhibition plans, with wall-space options beginning at five linear feet.
Depending on the selected plan, services may include lighting, VIP passes, online presence through ClioArtFair.com, social media exposure, art handling, wall labeling, storage during the fair week, and professional art-dealer representation.
Artists do not pay when submitting their application. Those accepted by the Curatorial Board receive a Notice of Approval with the next steps for confirming their participation.
The Early Bird period is especially useful for artists planning their 2027 exhibition calendar well in advance. It provides additional time to develop work, prepare presentation materials, organize shipping, and consider how participation in New York fits into a broader professional strategy.
The standard $50 application fee is waived during the Early Bird period.
Early Bird Deadline: December 1, 2026
Which Opportunity Fits Where Your Practice Is Now?
Although all three opportunities can advance an artist’s career, they support very different needs.
The Art Dealer Street Solo Exhibition Opportunity is the most presentation-focused. It makes sense for an artist who already has enough strong work to build a coherent solo exhibition and wants the experience of presenting that work within a dedicated New York gallery environment.
The Bronx Museum AIM Fellowship is less about showing work immediately and more about building the knowledge that supports a longer career. Artists who are producing consistently but want a stronger understanding of the market, institutions, writing, funding, legal issues, documentation, and professional relationships may find this kind of structured development particularly valuable.
Clio Art Fair May 2027 sits somewhere between those two approaches. It provides a future exhibition target for independent artists who want to introduce their work to wider audiences while participating in a professional art-fair environment in Chelsea.
When evaluating opportunities, it is worth looking beyond the organization or deadline and asking what you would actually gain from participating.
Do you need a space where your work can stand alone? Do you need stronger professional skills before taking the next step? Or would having a major exhibition date on your 2027 calendar help give direction to the work you are developing now?
The strongest opportunity is usually the one that matches both the current stage of your practice and the next stage you are trying to reach.
