Anish Kapoor (born on 12 March 1954 in Mumbai, India) is a British Indian sculptor who specialized in installation art and conceptual art.

Artist Biography


In1973, Anish Kapoor immigrated to the United Kingdom where he studied at the Hornsey and the Chelsea College of Art. His work quickly gained international recognition.In 1991, He received the Turner Prize and in 2003 he was crowned as Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Having touch of Indian spirituality, his sculptures strike a balance between opposing forces.


Anish Kapoor had work involved with his geometric sculptures that were partially abstract and completely coated in pure pigment. However,in 1990's his work became monumental scale, focusing on the idea of the void and

was awarded the Premio Duemila Prize. After winning the Turner prize in 1991, Kapoor became internationally famous, and began exhibiting worldwide.


In 2004, Kapoor unveiled Cloud Gate, a commissioned work for Chicago’s Millennium Park. It is an enormous elliptical arc made of reflective stainless steel. Kapoor is said to have derived his inspiration for the piece from liquid mercury. During. the years he exhibited his work in different significant exhibitions.In 2020 Kapoor unveiled a new exhibition at the grounds of Houghton Hall in Norfolk. It was the largest ever outdoor exhibition of pieces by Kapoor, containing 21 sculptures, some previously unseen, as well as his selection of drawings.

Anish Kapoor's work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $85 USD to $3,876,653 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork. According to the website Artprice.com, In 2020 the turnover of Anish Kapoor artwork is worth $2,212,213. The oldest auction result ever registered on the website for an artwork by this artist is a sculpture sold in 1985 at Basel's, and the most recent auction result is a sculpture sold in 2021.
