Historic Art Gets Remixed

Have you ever wondered how the AGO’s paintings would look with a modern update? How would the portraits change? And how would the landscapes transform?

Mayhew, along with Ian Kelso who are both co-founders of the mixed reality studio Impossible Things, have just launch a five month augmented reality installation called ReBlink that remixes historic pieces of art and updates them with modern technologies and products that drive our daily lives.

Using a custom app for smartphones and tablets, visitors use their device’s camera to unlock Mayhew’s modern twists on historical works of art. Mayhew highlights how much we have — and haven’t — changed over time, inviting visitors to look at paintings such as Evisceration of a Roebuck with a Portrait of a Married Couple, Drawing Lots and Marchesa Casati through his unique 21st century lens.

Organized by the Art Gallery of Ontario

Exhibition Dates:

July 6, 2017 – April 8, 2018
